Social intervention program n1.06bn

The House of Representatives has begun an investigation of the N1.06 Trillion Nigerian social intervention program for the resilience and economic stimulus (NGRES) of the federal government.

The Chairperson of the DPR Committee in Ngares, Abubakar Kusada, revealed this to journalists on Wednesday in Abuja.

He said the investigation had become necessary because the masses did not feel the impact of social nets even though the federal government fulfilled its funding obligations.

MPs said that the government has also provided guidelines and operational arrangements for effective program implementation.

He said: “A total of $ 696 million, which is equivalent to N1.06 trillion, has been released as a social, safety, and palliative intervention with Nigeria in 36 states and FCT through various shipping platforms.

“Therefore it is most surprising that the effects of palliative are not felt by the vulnerable groups of targets in Nigeria after the government has carried out so many resources for this purpose through the state.

“There is still a loud call from the neglect of the government over the fate of the Nigerians who survived in the burden of economic reform.”

The chairman showed that the committee, in exercising his power under section 88 and 89, had decided to start a direct and full investigation of the Ngares program.

He stressed that this exercise aims to uncover termination and ensure the proper expenditure of the large amount provided by the government for the administration of social welfare.

“If we verify this claim, we will also reveal the impact they have on food supply, food prices, and the fate of ordinary Nigerians.

“If we cannot verify claims, we will mention and embarrass the affected countries and insist that the right thing is done.

“Likewise, we will verify grants and other support that is said to be given to MSE for recovery and economic stimulus,” Kusada added.
