Former Super Eagles player Sam Sodje has strongly condemned the prevalence of pedophilia among young coaches in Delta State and other parts of Nigeria.
The retired footballer currently travels between London, England and Delta State where he contributes to the engagement and empowerment of the younger generation through sport.
Sodje expressed his sadness that coaches in the care of young children sexually abuse and destroy their futures, and that society is not doing enough to stop this criminal practice.
Sodje said in an interview: “Sport is a powerful tool that has brought millions of people out of poverty in Nigeria and elsewhere in the world, the current economic hardship in Nigeria has caused many parents to encourage their children to participate as a way out of poverty. poverty. poverty vehicle.

“In their rush to ensure their wards participated in sports, they provided it without doing due diligence or proper background checks on so-called youth coaches.
“The majority of so-called youth trainers are of questionable character and their motive is to sexually abuse these children, not provide them with coaching guidance.”
Sodje revealed that he had heard too many stories about coaches committing acts of sexual abuse against children while offering coaching services in various sports across the country.
During his playing days, Sodje played for English teams such as Brentford, Reading, West Bromwich Albion, Sheffield Wednesday, Watford, Charlton Athletic, Notts County, Portsmouth, and Greek club Skoda Xanthi.
