Nigeria senior national team head coach Eric Chelle says some people are against him retaining his position as Nigeria senior national team head coach, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Chelle, who led the Super Eagles to a third-place finish in the AFCON, still has one year left on his contract but the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), in agreement with the National Sports Commission (NSC), has agreed to extend his contract to cover two more years.
However, talks have largely stalled due to the manager’s demands, which were leaked to the media following reports linking him with the vacant job at French Ligue 1 side Marseille.
The coach opposes the leaking of confidential information to the media, such as his demands for a new contract, and believes that this is a calculated attempt by some people to get him fired.
“I really wonder who said it and why. The only reason will be that they fire me because I am aware that some people do not want me to continue as a coach, but I have one more year left on my contract and I am looking forward to it,” said the coach.
