Luciano Spalletti will continue as coach of Italy despite the team’s exclusion from the current Euro 2024.
A 2-0 defeat to Switzerland saw Italy relinquish their European champions crown.
Following the team’s elimination, there were calls for Spalletti to be relieved of his position as head coach.

But after meeting with the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) on Saturday, the former Napoli coach will keep his job.
“We had a long conversation with the coach yesterday and I think it is unthinkable to solve our problems by abandoning a project that has lasted several years,” said FIGC president Gabriele Gravina at Fabrizio Romano’s X. “You cannot abandon a project after 8 or 9 months.”
The defeat against Switzerland was the first time that Italy had lost two games in a single edition of the European Championship.
