The official women of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) condemned harmful publications against officers who have recently been promoted by the Police Service Commission (PSC), following the recommendation of the Police Inspector General, IGP Kayodeegbetokun.
Forcing the General Consultant of the Police General Inspector, Aig Aishatu Abubakar Baju, in a press declaration, Wednesday, in Abuja, expressed deep shock and disappointment for the recent “unjustified attacks against official policemen who have recently been promoted by the PSC, following the recommendation of the IGP.
The state has read: “It is particularly disturbing that these harmful statements, led by Mr. Omoyel Sowore and his collaborators, have identified female officers for criticism, while their male counterparties promoted under the same process and criteria were not left uninhabited.
“Police women are an integral part of the maintenance of the law and the order and as dedicated public employees, as well as mothers, sisters and wives, deserve the utmost respect and dignity.
“The promotions in the police forces of Nigeria are earned strictly by merit, both for years of exemplary service or exceptional services. Women who satisfy these standards are equally entitled to recognition and progress of his career as their male colleagues.
“The insinuation that the promotions of female officers are undeserved or based on gender prejudice is not only unfounded, but also reflects rooted misogyny. These observations undermine the sacrifices, professionalism and hard work of women in uniform that risk their lives daily at the service of our nation.”
Aig Baju declared: “Therefore, we ask for the immediate retraction of these derogatory statements and a formal public excuse to the women of the NPF.
“We reaffirm that no quantity of intimidation or strip campaigns will dissuade us from downloading our duties with the highest level of professionalism, integrity and commitment to national security.”
