Sports Minister Disappointed After National Stadium Lagos Tour – Latest Sports News In Nigeria
During his visit, the Minister toured various areas of the stadium complex, including the National Institute of Sports, the boxing complex, the main bowl of the stadium, the sports medical centre, the indoor sports hall, and other facilities.
He also examined the Games Village hostels, the Legacy Pitch, the Power House, and courts for various sports.
Expressing his concerns about the state of the facility, Senator Enoh emphasized that the National Stadium, which was once a symbol of national pride, should not be in such a deteriorated condition.
He expressed his determination to restore the stadium to its former glory.
“This facility built around the 1960’s, has been put to use functionally, including during the 2nd All African Games (1973). It has gone through a lot,” the Minister recalls.
“Its current state should not be the symbol of our sports in a city referred to as a sports city.
“I am glad that the process towards the concession of the facility has gone far. If that is what it will take to restore the glory of this facility, I endorse it 100 percent.”
Senator Enoh highlighted the importance of maintenance to prevent the facilities from falling into disrepair again.
“We must be careful and make something happen quickly, so that the facilities we have working, don’t fall into the same sorry state of shame.”
