Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh has expressed immense pride and joy as Onyinyechi Mark won Nigeria’s first GOLD medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, setting a stunning new world record in the process.
Mark competed in the women’s Para-Powerlifting category up to 61 kg, breaking the previous world record by lifting an astonishing 147 kg, before further increasing the weight to 150 kg—a feat that has established her position as a dominant force in the sport.
Senator Owan Enoh, in his congratulatory message, praised Mark’s historic achievement, saying: “This performance is truly phenomenal.
“Today, you are flying the flag of our great nation at the ongoing Paralympics, having won Nigeria’s first Olympic gold medal at the Games.

“Not only did you lift 147 kg to break the Paralympic record and win the Gold Medal, you also accepted the challenge given to you, lifting 150 kg to set a new world record.”
Enoh added, “You have brought immense pride and joy to Nigerians, you have built a momentum that is a valuable statement of the resilient spirit of Nigerians. We are so proud of you, the Government and the sports lovers of Nigeria celebrate you as our champion! Thank you for doing it for yourself and the country.”
In the heat of competition, after securing the gold medal, Mark returned to the stage to break his own World Record not once, but twice, by lifting an astonishing 150 kg.
With this achievement, he has now broken the last three World Records in the sport—146 kg, 147 kg, and now 150 kg. With Mark’s impressive performance, he broke the Paralympic Record previously held by Lucy Ejike of Nigeria.
