Tottenham Hotspur has conquered their first European trophy since 1984, defeating Manchester United 1-0 in the UEFA Europa League final held at the San Mamés stadium in Bilbao on Wednesday evening.
The decisive moment came to the 42nd minute in which a cross by Pape Matar Sarr of Spurs was diverted on the net by Manchester United’s Luke Shaw, marking a goal attributed to Brennan Johnson for his involvement in the comedy.
The game was characterized by limited possibilities and thesis exchanges.
Manchester United dominated possession but struggled to convert it into clear opportunities, approaching when the header from Rasmus Hojlund was almost drawn before being acrobaticly authorized by Micky Van de Ven on the line, and a 97 -minute rescue by vicar by a Luke Shaw’s headphimais.
Despite the lack of fluidity of the game, the meaning both for the clubs and for their supporters has remained high, with Spurs aiming at European argery and United has sought a third consecutive season with a large trophy.
The victory does not only end the drought of the 17 -year -old Trophy of Tottenham, but also ensures their place in the UEFA Champions League of the next season.
