The Nigeria team is represented by 92 athletes (51 boys and 41 girls), and has become one of the main contestants together with South Africa and Kenya.
Speaking at the conference, the SSA Adeboye praised the perfect organization of the championship, attributing its success to the visionary leadership of Mallam Shehu Dikko, president of the National Sports Commission, and Hon. Bukola Olopade, general director of the Commission, who also serves as president of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the championship.
“This is a great milestone for African youth sports, and Nigeria is proud to organize such a powerful talent meeting,” said Adeboye. “I want to recommend Mallam Shehu Dikko and Hon. Bukola Olopade for its exceptional leadership. The effort to assemble this shows how serious we are about sports development.”
He stressed that young people are not only leaders of tomorrow, but vital taxpayers to the construction of the current nation, urging continuous support to initiatives that involve them positively.
Adeboye also used the occasion to gather national support before the Armwrestling Championship of Africa next week in Abuja, where he also serves as president of LOC.
“With only four days to the end, we need all hands on the deck. The government cannot do it alone. We need the private sector, communities and sports lovers to join us to give our young people the platform to excel,” he said.
The SSA further hinted at the need for greater financial support to ensure that Nigeria offers a world -class event in Abuja.
“These championships are more than more than medals: they try to build a future. I urge the Nigerians to support our athletes with everything they can. We show Africa that we support our champions.”
The presence of adeboye in Abeokuta reaffirms the renewed agenda of hope of the Tinubu administration on the development of youth and the base, which places sports in the heart of empowerment and national unity.
