Students suspected of university killers are extracted to Nigeria from Qatar

The Nigerian police have completed the extradition of a murder suspect who escaped from Doha, Qatar, to the country.

The troop community relations officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed this in a statement he posted on handle x handle @princemoye1 on Saturday.

He said the suspect, who had been escaped for the murder of Miss Augusta Onuwabhagbe in Lagos, was returned to the country on Saturday.

The spokesman said: “The suspect returned in the early hours of the morning through coordinated efforts with the Ministry of Justice, International Criminal Police Organizations (Interpol), National Center Bureau (NCB), Force Abuja Headquarters, and Qatar Judicial Authority.

“The extradition follows the petition from the family of the deceased, submitted through their legal representatives, and dated 29 September 2024.

“The problem is assigned to Interpol NCB Abuja to be investigated.”

According to Adejobi, investigations revealed that the suspect killed Onuwabhagbe, a first -class student at Lead City City University, Ibadan, at his residence in Abiola Apooyi Street, Oral Estate, Ajah, Lagos, on July 13, 2023.

He added: “After committing a crime, he fled from Nigeria and then released an online video intended to confess to ACT, a deceptive strategy to thwart the investigation effort.

“Following the declaration as a person sought by the NPF Lagos Criminal Investigation Department on October 13, 2023, Interpol Red’s notification was issued for his global concern.

“He was initially arrested in Freetown, Sierra Leone, in October 2023 under the fake identity ‘Kanu Princeton Samuel,’ but fled from detention during a break in prison on November 26, 2023, in Freetown.

“The intelligence meeting further revealed that the suspect continued to avoid law enforcement, crossing many regions including West Africa, East Asia and the Middle East, under false identity before moving to Doha, Qatar, on January 24, 2025.

“Operating under the alias ‘Toure Abdoulaye’ with a cheating guinean passport, he gets an illegal job and hides his identity.

“Through a strong international cooperation and sophisticated biometric use, the NCB Abuja Interpol, in collaboration with Interpol NCB Doha, confirmed its identity, which led to its arrest by Qatari’s authority in February 2025.

“The official request of extradition, processed through the Ministry of Federal Justice, Abuja, was then approved by the Qatar Judicial Authority, which resulted in his repatriation against Nigeria.”
