An undisclosed number of students and teachers were feared killed when a two-storey school building collapsed at Saints Academy in Busa-Buji community, Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State on Friday.
Dozens of people were also trapped in the rubble.
Eyewitnesses told reporters that the building collapsed at 8:30 a.m. when many students and teachers were already in class to take final exams.
The incident prompted a rapid response with cranes and rescue workers working hard to free people trapped under collapsed buildings.
News of the collapsed building caused panic as anxious parents and guardians who had sent their children to the school rushed to the institution to see for themselves the situation.

One parent told reporters at the site of the collapsed building that her child had previously complained about the building shaking the previous day.
He criticized school authorities for failing to act on warning signs.
“A building does not just collapse without any warning. The school was negligent and their negligence contributed to this tragic incident,” he lamented.
