A former member of the Chamber of the Shareholders’ Meeting [1990-1992]Hon. Prince Chikwendu Bartholomew Obi is dead.

62 years old, he passed on August 20, 2025, in a short illness.

The family announced her passage in a declaration sent to the conclave by her younger brother, a businessman based in Abuja, Gibson Obi.

Born on September 19, 1963, in the esteemed royal family of Obi of Emekuku, the life of Prince Obi was marked by a passion for leadership, education and empowerment.

● First life and education

The educational journey of Prince Obi began at the Amapu Awaka elementary school, followed by the school complete with Obibi Ezena and the secondary school of the Owerri government. He later attended the Imo State University, where he obtained a degree in the Public Administration. During his university days, he was an active member of the government of the Student Union and the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) Youth Wing.

● Political career

Prince Obi’s political career has gone through several decades and parties. He was elected in the Chamber of the IMO State Assembly in the second Republic, representing the old electoral college of the State of Owerri. As a member of the Chamber, he supported the reform of the local government and was president of the local government service commission under the governor Evan Enwerem. He later became a secretary organizer of the State of the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) and a member of the Popular Party (App), where he worked as assistant secretary of national advertising.

In addition to his political activities, Prince Obi was a successful and CEO of the Verna Prince Company Nigeria Limited. He also worked as director of Imo Concorde Hotels. His philanthropic efforts have focused on the erasing of unemployment and on the promotion of education, often helping people find work and underlining the importance of academic excellence.

Prince Obi’s legacy is based on his dedication to public service, education and development of the community. As a knight of San Cristoforo and devoted member of the Church of Living Fede, he lived a life of faith and service. He survived his wife, Princess Kelechi Helen Obi and their four children, as well as three brothers and other relatives.
