The Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC) has expressed high confidence that the Super Eagles will take home the AFCON 2026 trophy, following their impressive 2-0 victory over Algeria in Marrakesh.
Speaking after the match, Dr. Rafiu Ladipo, NFSC President General, praised the team’s performance and urged them to maintain the same momentum when they face Morocco in the semi-final on Wednesday.
“We are proud of their performance and we urge them to repeat the same against Morocco,” said Dr. Ladipo.
“We gave them our full support and were delighted to see two goals in the second half that sealed the victory.”
Dr. Ladipo reaffirmed the Supporters Club’s unwavering commitment to cheering the national team to victory, emphasizing that the Super Eagles have what it takes to secure a fourth AFCON title for Nigeria.
However, the NFSC president lamented the lack of government recognition and support for the club despite decades of service to the country’s football teams.
“The Federal Government must recognize our contributions. For more than 70 years, we have invested our time, energy and resources, both financial and in-kind, supporting all national teams,” Ladipo said.
“Players and officials are often rewarded, but no one has seen fit to value the Nigeria Football Supporters Club. More than 40 of our members are currently in Morocco, funding their own food, accommodation and transportation just to support the Super Eagles.”
He added that club members often endure harsh conditions and sacrifice personal comfort to ensure that Nigerian teams receive full moral and vocal support during international tournaments.
Dr. Ladipo appealed to the federal government and corporations to provide financial and logistical support to the Supporters Club, recognizing its vital role in boosting national morale and promoting Nigerian football globally.
