The Nigeria Super Eagles have retained their perfect record in the Unity Cup, surpassing an energetic Jamaican team 5-4 in sanctions after a dramatic 2-2 raffle in the regulation time in the Gtech community stadium, Brentford.
The game began with fireworks. In just the ninth minute, Moses Simon hit Nigeria, ending sharply to put the super eagles on the front.
But Jamaica responded quickly: Kaheim Dixon found the tie in the 12th minute, taking advantage of a defensive period to level the score in 1-1.

The second half resumed with the same intensity. Samuel Chukwueze, under inconsistency scrutiny, took a step forward with a brilliant goal in the 53rd minute, curving a blow down beyond the Jamaican goalkeeper to restore Nigeria’s leadership in 2-1.
But once again, Jamaica responded. Renaldo Cajhas destroyed the left flank in the 63rd minute, surpassing Sodiq Ismail before delivering a precise cross to Jonathan Russell, who did not make any mistake from a short distance to take the game to 2-2.
Without winner after 90 minutes, the final went to a criminal shooting. Nigeria kept the nerve, turning the five penalties, while Jamaica lost one, which saved the Super Eagles a 5-4 victory and the trophy.
“It’s more than a simple victory,” said the former defender of the Super Eagles, Sam Sodje. “It is a depth proof, character and unity in the squad.”
Peter Ijeh praised Chukwueze: “He delivered when he mattered. This is how you respond to critics.”
Abiodun Obafemi, although satisfied with the result, urged caution: “We lost control at key moments. That must improve before facing a harder opposition.”
With this result, Nigeria is still the only team that has raised the Unity Cup, which he previously won in 2002 and 2004, and now again in 2025. A perfect record, an exciting final and another chapter of Nigerian soccer glory written in London.
