Super Eagles grants too many goals: Chelle reveals his headache when trying to instill the style of play

The coach of the national senior team of Nigeria Eric Chelle has lamented the fact that the defense of the team grants too many goals as seen in the Unity Cup tournament recently completed in England, reports Owngoalnigeria.com.

Chelle saw Nigeria launch a two-go advantage to attract 2-2 against Jamaica, before winning the 5-4 game with penalties. Nor was I happy to grant a goal in the 2-1 victory over Ghana in their first game of the tournament.

In statements to the Nigerian journalist with headquarters in London, Austine Okon Akpan, Chelle said the defense is a concern for him, since he tries to instill a model and identity of the game for the team.

“We take so many goals during these United Games. Especially when we lose the ball and we cannot when we recover it and after a cross. We need to work on that, but the reality is that I think we create something new about the game project on the identity of the team,” he told Austin after the game against Jamaica in the unit.

“So, the identity of the team, you know, we made a lot of pressure on the ball and I think it’s great, we are doing that. We have some quality, but we are some weaknesses, so we need to continue and work again, work again and focus on our identity, our work project.”

When he was pressed to talk about the game of the game he has always spoken, the Mailian continued to explain the idea, philosophy, character, style and way in which he wants the team to be seen during the games.

“That is why every time I talk about it. I want to talk about the game project because the game project is what we are doing when we don’t have the ball? What are we doing when you have the ball.

“I want someone to look for a game. Look at a game on the Nigerian team and say a Nigeria team when they don’t have the ball. They do high pressure and when they have the ball, they try to make a quick attack, or if it is not possible, they try to keep the ball.

“And if you look at our four games, our last four games you can see that. So, that’s why I’m happy with that, but reality need to work because we have some weaknesses. As in defense. And we need to improve. And work physically. To do high pressure for 60 or 70 minutes,” he concluded.
