Super Falcons maintains 36th position in the world rankings

The Super Falcons of Nigeria have retained their 36th position in the latest FIFA World rankings released on Friday.

The nine-time Africa Cup of Nations Women’s champion, who is preparing to play at the Paris Olympics, remains number one in Africa.

Another African representative at the Olympics, Zambia is now ranked 64th in the world.

The last time the Falcons enjoyed a big jump in the world rankings was in August 2023, when they rose eight places from 40th to 32nd.

The impressive move up the rankings is thanks to their impressive performances at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Despite being drawn in a tough group that housed Australia, Olympic champions Canada and debutants the Republic of Ireland, the Falcons still qualified for the round of 16.

Unfortunately, they lost to England on penalties in the first knockout round.

The next women’s ranking will be published on August 16 2024.
