A suspected smuggler on Friday killed a Nigerian Customs officer, Hamza Abdullahi-Elenwo, in Jigawa State.

Public Relations Officer for the Federal Operations Unit, Zone B, Kaduna, Isah Sulaiman, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday.
He said the suspect had been detained by police in the state.

Sulaiman said: “The incident occurred when a vehicle suspected of being smuggled into the country hit the officer while trying to evade arrest.
“The deceased officer was rushed to Kazaure General Hospital and later transferred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Katsina, where he was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.
“A suspect has been arrested and is in the custody of the Nigeria Police Force, Gwiwa Division in Jigawa.
“The members of the unit will not be deterred and will remain steadfast in fighting smuggling.”
