The Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) has rejected a review of the salary and upward allowances proposed to the holders of the Political Office with the allocation of income mobilization and the Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), warning that the plan can trigger social riots and deepen inequality throughout the country.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, NLC President, Friend Joe Ajaero, condemned the move as “insensitive, unfair, unfair, and a direct threat to social stability.”
“We are angry with RMAFC’s decision to start a comprehensive review from the remuneration package of political office holders,” said Ajaero. “This step is not sensitive and will only succeed in expanding the inequality between civil servants and political office holders.”
Ajaero rejected the justification provided by the Chairman of the RMAFC, Mohammed Usman, described it as very inadequate. He warned that turning public office into a means of personal enrichment rather than public service can “improve despair for political position, with dangerous consequences for governance and stability.”

The labor agency emphasized that the proposal time was very provocative, because civil servants continued to grab wage stagnation despite the skyrocketing costs. NLC remembers that the minimum wage remains at N70,000, while the final adjustment for workers is less than 50 percent. Conversely, allegations, the holder of the political office has enjoyed an increase more than 800 percent.
The union also highlighted the injustice of the application of uniform remuneration to politicians throughout the country, regardless of the state fiscal reality, while the wages of civil servants remain bound to “availability of resources.”
As part of its demands, the NLC called for the full disclosure of the current income from all political office holders and the criteria used for the proposed review. This urged RMAFC to immediately stop training, warning that the process could trigger a “potential tsunami.”
