The fierce rivalry between Africa’s top table tennis nations, Egypt and Nigeria, will return at the 2024 ITTF Africa Championships.

The event will take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 12 to 19 October 2024.

Serving as a qualifier for the 2024 ITTF Mixed Team Cup in China and the 2025 World Championships in Qatar, the tournament will feature the top teams and regional champions competing in two team events and five individual events.

The event includes Men’s Team, Women’s Team, Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.

Returning to Ethiopia after 24 years, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) promises an exciting competition.

As defending champions, Egypt will face stiff competition from arch-rivals Nigeria, along with strong contenders such as Tunisia and Algeria.

Khaled El-Salhy, President of the African Table Tennis Federation (ATTF), expressed confidence in Ethiopia’s preparations, highlighting their success in hosting the Eastern Regional Championships in 2023.

“We awarded the hosting rights to Ethiopia following their presentation at the last Annual General Meeting in Tunisia and the successful hosting of the Eastern Regional Championships in 2023, which gave us the perfect indication that they deserve to host the ITTF-Africa Championships 2024, especially since they have not hosted a major African event in Addis Ababa since 2000,” he added.

“We are confident that the Ethiopian Table Tennis Federation has the experience to ensure the tournament runs smoothly and seamlessly.

“The level of competition will be high as players vie to qualify for the 2025 World Championship in Doha, Qatar.”
