Tanzania authority officially banned access to social media sites X, previously known as Twitter, with the reason that he did not comply with national regulations that control the spread of explicit and pornography material.
The decision was made after the site was repeatedly warned about “inappropriate and offensive content that violates Tanzanian cultural values ββand digital regulations,” according to a statement issued by the State Communication Regulation Authority (TCRA) on Wednesday.
The prohibition, which immediately applies, prevents users from accessing online applications and cellular platforms through any main ISP.

“Although there are many notifications, the platform fails to take action to limit or moderate sexual explicit material that can be accessed by the public, including minors,” said Director General of TCRA, James Kilaba.
Tanzania users stated that, on Thursday morning, they could not use applications without using VPN, and the government had not yet indicated how long the ban would survive or what specific conditions would cause recovery.
East Africa now joins a list of developing countries – including India, TΓΌrkiye, and Indonesia – which have threatened or implemented actions of regulations on social media platforms.
