On Monday, a Taylor Swift fan organization announced it had raised more than $40,000 for Kamala Harris’ campaign in response to Donald Trump’s social media posts expressing his dislike of the pop star.
Trump posted on Truth Social Sunday morning, declaring, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” The group “Swifties for Kamala” used the moment to raise money for Harris, Trump’s Democratic rival.
Carly Long, a member of the group’s communications team, said, “As soon as we saw the post, we knew this was an opportunity. Our team was ready to come up with ideas for lyrical responses and ways to connect with our call to donate and volunteer.”
Long continued, “We use memes to get people’s attention, then tell them how to turn that emotion into action. Swifties know haters are gonna hate, but we also know we can do more than just shake, shake, shake.”

Despite not being officially affiliated with Taylor Swift, fans have raised more than $207,000 since launching their fundraising effort less than two months ago. Their inaugural fundraising call, which drew 27,000 viewers, featured a performance by Carole King and appearances from Senators Elizabeth Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Ed Markey.
Swift recently endorsed Harris and her running mate Tim Walz, praising Harris as a “tough and talented leader.” After the Harris-Trump debate, Swift wrote, “I voted for @kamalaharris because she fights for rights and causes that I think need a warrior to fight for them.”
In addition to fundraising and phone calls, “Swifties for Kamala” plans to increase outreach in swing states and on the remaining dates of Swift’s Era Tour, which resumes in Miami on October 18.
Irene Kim, co-founder of Swifties for Kamala, emphasized the group’s impact, saying, “We are a testament to the power that Swifties have. We are building on the existing fandom culture to make voting and politics accessible.”
