Clear tension is happening in Kano’s ancient city after the 16th Emir Kano invitation, Muhammadu Sanusi II, by the Police Inspector General, Kayode Egbetokun.
The invitation was in connection with the violence that occurred during the new Sallah celebration which caused the murder of one of his safety assistants who were stabbed to death by the criminals.
Emir’s invitation to appear before IG at the headquarters of the troops in Abuja on Tuesday, April 8, contained in a letter dated April 4 and signed by a Police Commissioner (Operation), Olajide Ibitoye.
According to the letter, the invitation was related to the ongoing investigation of the controversial durbar procession that was held in contrast to the police’s prohibition to hold a procession.
Invitation Letter with Reference Number Cr: 3000/FID/FHQ/ABJ/Vol59/697 and signed by Ibitoye on behalf of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Department of Intelligence Force (FID), Abuja, Reading:
“I have the direction of the Police Inspector General, through the Deputy Inspector General of the Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID), to invite you to an investigation meeting on the incident that occurred during the Sallah celebration in your territory.”

Violence had broken down during the Sallah procession when a vigilante member attached to the Sanusi group, Surajo Rabiu, was stabbed to death, while the vigilante member, Aminu Suleman, suffered an injury and was rushed to the Muhammmed Murtala Specialist Hospital, Kano, for medical treatment.
Following the incident, a spokesman for the State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna, in a statement, said the incident occurred when local guards protected the Emir Sanusi II group on their journey from the place of Kofar Eid’s prayer after observing two Eid-El-El-Fitr Prayers.
Haruna added that the order had arrested a Usman Sagiru in connection with the alleged murder of the vigilante member.
However, Emir Sanusi’s invitation has caused differences in votes in the state because some people who are loyal to Emir believe that the police are playing a manuscript that is regulated in an ongoing struggle for a monarchy between Sanusi and Ado Bayero with a view to removing the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Some residents who spoke with journalists on Saturday, kicked Emir’s invitation by the police, described it as a plot by the federal government to impose an emergency in the state.
They also view the invitation as another way to erase Sanusi as Kano’s emir.
