The former defense minister, Lieutenant General Theophilus Danjuma (Retd), expressed concern about his health in deterioration, describing himself as “an old patient” while making a passionate appeal for national unity.

He also supported loyalty towards leaders as a key to economic growth and democratic stability in Nigeria, according to a guardian report.

Danjuma made the disclosure to Ganye during his turban ceremony while the Paan Ganye band by Gangwari Ganye, his real height Alhaji Adamu Sanda.

“Time is about to escape quickly for me, as you can see. I am an old patient,” said Danjuma, attracting attention to his fragility, even if he invited the Nigerians, in particular the people of the state of Adamawa, to remain faithful to their leaders.

According to the elderly Statesman, peace and development would be elusive united behind their leaders with loyalty and cooperation united.

“People from Adamawa, I ask you to be faithful to your leaders and Nigeria in general. This is the only way to achieve peace and development,” he urged.

Danjuma, who presided over the celebration of the silver Jubilee which marked 25 years of leadership of Gangwari Ganye, also praised traditional sovereigns for their fundamental role in the construction of peace and in the resolution of the conflicts of the community.

In a message delivered on behalf of the vice -president Kashim Shettimo, the Minister of State for Regional Development, UBA Maigari, praised traditional leaders as manufacturers of bridges and affirmed the commitment of the federal government to support their efforts to build peace.

The governor Ahmadu of the state of Adamawa echoed to similar feelings, noting that his administration had enjoyed strong support from the traditional institution, in particular in the sector of maintaining peace and support for agricultural development in the region.

“Today is a celebration of wisdom. Your kingdom as a traditional sovereign of Ganye Chiefdom has brought stability and agricultural growth,” said Finitiri.

In its observations, Gangwari Ganye, Hrh Adamu Sanda, stressed that traditional sovereigns are deeply involved in the resolution of Nigeria’s socio-political challenges, often acting from the first line of response to tension and insecurity.

“We have never failed to reduce tension and support civil authorities in the implementation of projects and programs for the well -being, safety and stability of our communities,” he said, asked for greater inclusion of traditional institutions in governance beyond their current consultative roles.

He reaffirmed the commitment of traditional sovereigns towards national unity and development, saying: “We want to ensure the government that we will remain faithful to the constituted authorities and ideals to build a prosperous and progressive society”.
