Terrell Davis’ Lawyer Releases Video of United Plane Crash, Says Plans to Sue Airline

The attorney representing Denver Broncos Hall of Famer Terrell Davis said his office is filing a lawsuit against United Airlines after the former Broncos star was handcuffed by law enforcement aboard a plane.

He also posted a new video showing the incident.

The former NFL star running back was on a United commercial flight from Denver to California earlier this month when a flight attendant approached the area where his family was sitting, and Davis says the attendant didn’t respond when his son asked for a glass of ice.

Davis then tapped the flight attendant on the shoulder, who suddenly yelled, “Don’t hit me,” and walked off to another part of the plane.

When the plane landed, the captain announced that everyone was to remain seated.

FBI agents then boarded the plane, handcuffed Davis, and took him off for questioning.

“The officer came up to me, leaned over and whispered, ‘Don’t resist,’ and put me in handcuffs,” Davis told CBS Mornings in an interview a few days after what he called an embarrassing and shocking incident.

He says he doesn’t believe the taps on the shoulder could have led to his arrest by federal agents.

The FBI told CBS Colorado that after they removed him from the plane, they released Davis when they determined he had done nothing wrong.

Attorney Parker Stinar’s team shared a new video Tuesday showing Davis being handcuffed and taken off the plane.

In the video, the person approaching Davis is wearing an FBI jacket and flight crew members watch silently from nearby in the cockpit.

In the video, Tamiko Davis, Davis’ wife, can be seen standing and exchanging a few words with the officer and Davis.

Tamiko, who appeared on CBS Mornings with her husband, said she initially thought the situation might be a prank.

She says that she and her husband try very hard to protect their children from such situations, and both parents say that experiencing these situations in front of their children has been traumatic.

“As a mom, as a Black mom raising two Black children, you work hard to prevent your children from having these types of experiences,” Tamiko said.

Stinar, who also appeared with Davis in his CBS interview, said in a statement Tuesday that the lawsuit was filed with the intent of holding United Airlines accountable for the “systematic failures that led to this traumatic incident.”

His full statement is as follows:

This video confirms the heartbreaking story of multiple law enforcement agents, including the FBI, boarding the plane and arresting a shocked, terrified, humiliated and compliant Mr. Davis, in front of his wife Tamiko, their minor children and more than one hundred passengers.

The logic behind the United Airlines employee’s misleading or inaccurate account goes far beyond a simple request for ice or an innocent tap on the shoulder.

That is why we are filing a lawsuit, because only through legal proceedings can we uncover the truth and hold United Airlines accountable for the systemic failures that led to this traumatic incident, causing irreparable harm and lasting suffering to the Davis family.

United apologized for the incident and said it had suspended the flight attendant from duty while the matter was investigated. [cbsnews.com]
