Tech billionaire Elon Musk is working to ensure that Tesla’s new Optimus Gen 2 becomes the first babysitting robot on the market.
Interesting Engineering claims in a report that the Tesla Optimus Gen 2, the latest model, has several important improvements over the Gen 1.
With 22 degrees of freedom, humanoid robots can perform a variety of dexterous tasks. Tesla has demonstrated this development in an advertising video similar to the widely shared Atlas footage from Boston Dynamics.
Musk has proposed that a large language model (LLM) like Chat-GPT be integrated into Optimus so that the robot can communicate with its owner.

Musk explained more details about his robot “companion” ambitions at Tesla’s annual shareholder meeting in 2024 in Austin, Texas.
“It’s, you know, your friend, can be in your house, can look after your kids, can be a teacher. You know, can do factory things. Who doesn’t want a C3PO?
“You know, but C3PO plus R2D2 plus, you know, plus plus. That would be really awesome. I think everybody in the world would want that. Everybody,” Musk said.
