The 34-cap Super Eagles ace is close to joining MLS side FC Cincinnati

Reports circulating in the United States of America indicate that Nigerian international defender Chidozie Awaziem is close to a transfer to MLS side FC Cincinnati. Own goal Nigeria.com understands.

The 27-year-old will join the team from Portuguese club Boavista, where he made 22 appearances last season, earning him a place in Nigeria’s senior national team for the Africa Cup of Nations.

FC Cincinnati is in need of defensive reinforcements with Matt Miazga and Nick Hagglund out for the season and Miles Robinson leaving for the Olympics next week.

The length of the deal he has agreed with the club is still unclear, where he will reunite with former Nigeria Under-20 midfielder Obinna Nwobodo, who has been with the team for the past two seasons.

Awaziem, who has 34 caps for Nigeria and was also a member of the squad that participated in the 2018 World Cup in Russia, has experience of playing in three different AFCON tournaments and is yet to establish his authority in the team as a regular player since his debut in 2017.
