The absence of two lawyers based in Abuja, Victor Giwa and Ibitade Bukola, on Monday stopped their indictments for forgery and imitation at the Federal Capital High Court (FCT), APO.
In the indictment marked by CR/150/25 submitted by the Police Inspector General, lawyers were accused of conspiring to falsify legal documents that were said to be issued by the Nigerian Senior Advocate (SAN), Awa U. Kalu, with the intention to mislead the Federation Prosecutors (AGF).
This duo was charged with the accusations of three counterfeiting counts and imitation of violations committed on June 28, 2024.
The prosecution accused that Giwa and Bukola forged and signed a letter at the official letterhead of Awa U. Kalu (San), asked AGF to suspend the scheduled indictment.
A controversial letter, entitled: “The urgent and solemn appeal to suspend our colleague’s indictment Victor Giwa for the cost number: CR/222/2023”, allegedly addressed to AGF.
They allegedly claimed that the letter came from San’s room and sought interventions to stop the indictment scheduled before the Supreme Court Justice Samira from the FCT High Court in Mauitama, Abuja, on July 2, 2024.

The defendants argue that the accusations of Giwa must be withdrawn for the interests of “nature justice, justice, and fair games.
Giwa, along with property developers, Cecil Osakwe, and others, must be charged with the accusations of nine alleged illegal eviction counts, criminal intimidation, threats to life, and property damage of N300 million.
When the problem arose on Monday, the defendants were absent from the court.
Mr. JK Kolawole appeared for the IGP while Uj Udo represented the defendants.
Udo told the court that Giwa lost two of his sister and had traveled to his village to regulate their funeral.
Therefore, he prayed that the court postponed until after the annual vacation the judges.
Judge Jude Onwuegbuzie warned that he would not entertain further reasons for the next seat.
