The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Constitution Review Committee has proposed 30% representation for women, 20% for youth and the inclusion of people living with disabilities (PLWD) within the party structure.
This is contained in a report presented to the ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, at the ADC National Secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the committee was inaugurated by the party in January.
Uwa, a Senior Lawyer of Nigeria (SAN), said the report highlighted the committee’s work, innovation and major deviations from the party’s original constitutional framework.

He noted that the committee was focused on producing a document that would address the persistent challenges in Nigeria’s political party system, as well as serve the party.
The president added that the committee sought public input, leading to proposals from stakeholders, including party members, civil society groups and international organizations.
“All memoranda received were carefully reviewed. While not all recommendations were adopted, we ensured that the final draft reflected balanced consideration and practical constitutional improvements for the party.
“The committee observed that many Nigerian parties lack ideological clarity, functioning primarily as power-seeking coalitions, and we therefore prioritize strengthening the ideological foundations within the ADC framework,” he said.
Uwa further said the party motto was changed to “A United and Flourishing Nigeria” to emphasize national unity and holistic development beyond economic growth as central objectives of the ADC’s vision.
Uwa stressed that disciplinary procedures have been restructured, with state discipline and reconciliation committees replacing departmental actions, to ensure fairness, reduce arbitrariness and promote resolution of internal party conflicts.
He commended the committee members for their dedication and commitment in completing the task.
Mark, on receiving the report, described it as an important milestone reflecting a commitment to institutionally strengthening the ADC.
Represented by the party’s National Legal Adviser, Professor Osareme Osunbor, Mark commended the committee’s diligence and inclusiveness, stressing that constitutional review is complex and requires foresight.
He noted that the document defines the identity, structure and aspirations of the party.
Mark assured that the committee’s recommendations will be carefully scrutinized in line with fairness, justice and fairness, stressing that discipline, loyalty and commitment remain essential beyond constitutional provisions.
While calling for unity and collective focus, he said Nigerians are looking for credible alternatives, adding, therefore, that a strong and forward-looking constitution is vital to position the ADC as a viable platform.
