The former Super Eagles striker, Brown Ideye, officially retired from professional football after a career that has lasted for almost two decades in Europe, Asia and Africa.
The 36 -year -old made the announcement through a declaration on his social media platforms, expressing gratitude to God, his family, fans and all those who played a role on his journey.
“After a lot of thought and consideration with the conflicting emotions, I decided to retire from professional football. I thank God for the talent and the long career that I liked,” said Ideye.
He continued to appreciate his family, friends, coaches, teammates, agents, journalists and fans for their support during his career.
Ideye has played for clubs including Ocean Boys, Sochaux, Dynamo Kiev, West Bromwich Albion, Aris Tessaloniki, Malaga, Tianjin Teda and, more recently, Eenyimba International FC. Known for its clinical finish, she gained the reputation of one of the most coherent attackers in Nigeria.
On the international stage, Ideye was part of the winning team of the 2013 Nations Cup under the deceased Stephen Keshi. He characterized 27 times for Super Eagles, scoring six goals.
Reflecting on his journey, he said: “This game made me and gave me everything – incredible joy, sad days, the opportunity to travel and see the world, friendships for life and unforgettable memories. For every fan who supported me and in Nigeria for allowing me to wear national colors, thanks.”
As he closed his player career, Ideye confirmed that football will remain at the center of his life. He has already assumed a new role as director of Player Pathways & Partnership at the Atlantic Business FC, a club based in Lagos, where he should help cultivate the next generation of talents.
From the winners of the League in Ukraine and Greece, playing in the Premier League, to the lifting of the AFCC trophy, Brown Ideye retires as one of the modern attackers of Nigeria.
