The American Embassy introduces new interview requirements for the visa for Nigerian candidates

The United States Embassy introduced the visa interview requirements updated for Nigerian candidates, in force since April 22, 2025.

In a declaration issued on Friday, the Mission of the United States stressed that all the candidates who attend interviews with Visa in Abuja and Lagos must present a DS-60 module with a confirmation bar code that starts with “AA” followed by two zero (00) ‍.

Basically, this bar code must combine the one used to book the online appointment.

Candidates with information on the non -corresponding bar code will be denied entry to the consular section and disqualified by their planned interviews.

“Starting from April 22, 2025, all candidates in Visa in Abuja and Lagos must bring a DS-60 Visan application form with a confirmation/bar code (starting from AA and followed by 00-two zero) which corresponds to the one used to make your appointment online. You must also make the appointment in the position you have selected when filling your DS-16”.

To avoid problems, candidates are strongly recommended to verify that their DS-60 bar code corresponds to the information on their appointment at least two weeks before the interview date.

The embassy also clarified that the DS-160 modules of previous applications cannot be reused. In case of non -correspondence, candidates must access their Avit account at least 10 days before the interview and send a correction request.

“If the DS-160 bar code is not correct, you need to access your AVIT account at least 10 days before the appointment to create a support ticket that requires the correction of the bar code number,” added the mission.

In addition, the appointments must be taken in the same position indicated in the DS-160 module. Candidates who are removed due to non -corresponding bar codes will have to solve the problem and reprogram a new appointment. If the visa fee has expired, a new payment may be requested.

From 1 January, all candidates have also been required to visit the United States Consulate General in Lagos twice as part of the Visa candidacy process.
