The Appeal Court put aside the decision to stop the local government election of Kano

The appeal court, Abuja, on Friday put aside the decision that stopped the election in 44 regional regions in the state canoeing.

Judge Simon Amobeda from the Federal High Court, Kano, on October 22, 2024, stopped the Kano State Independent Election Commission (Kansiec) conducted an election.

He also canceled the composition of the commission.

The judge, who submitted the decision in the lawsuit filed by all the progressive congress (APC) in the state, stated that members of the commission were members who brought cards from the new Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP).

This development, according to him, was a violation part of 197 and 200 from the 1999 Constitution.

Judge Amobeda, after that, directed the Independent National Election Commission (Inec) not to release a national voter list for the election of local councils in the state.

However, in the Friday process, the panel of three members from the appeal court, led by Judge Biobel Georgewill, delivered a decision in three appeal filed by the state government.

The panel believes that a lower court does not have jurisdiction to entertain cases bordering the composition of the State Election and Member Qualifications.

The State Council of Kano and KasiC State Assembly is another appeal in the lawsuit.

The appeal court decided that three cases supported the appeal applicants.

The panel also believes that the State High Court is the most appropriate place to hear these cases.
