The Army denied the bandits who controlled the troops in Kwara

The Nigerian army has denied the report circulating online that Bandits defeated their troops in Obanla, the state of Kwara, and escaped with six general destination machine rifles (GPMG) and more than 30,000 ammunition rounds.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Lieutenant Colonel Policao Okoye, Deputy Director, Army Community Relations, 2 Divisions, described the story as fake, emphasizing that Battalion Troops 148 (rear), currently carrying out permission operations throughout the Kogi and Kwara states, instead recorded significant profits.

“Contrary to sensational claims, the troops put a strong blocking position along the Kwara-Ekiti border axis, where they neutralized two armed bandits and found two new AK-47 rifles,” Okoye explained.

He refused online reports as “fabrication designed to mislead the public and damage the morals of the dashing troops,” insisting that no soldier position was flooded and no weapons cache was missing.

Calling for peace, the army urged the Nigerians to ignore publications and continue to support military operations with credible intelligence.

“The Nigerian army remains committed to explicitly dealing with all forms of crime throughout the country and will maintain the tempo of operations until all criminal networks in Kogi, Kwara, and adjacent states are demolished,” the statement added.
