6 Brigade troops, the Nigerian Army, have arrested the bandits sought in the state of Taraba and restored weapons and ammunition.
Acting Assistant Director of Public Relations Army, Captain Olubodunde Oni, revealed this in a statement on Friday in Jalingo.
He said the troops had recorded extraordinary operational success in the last few days.
Oni said: “The dashing troops carried out a series of coordinated operations in various regional regions (LGA), which resulted in the desired arrest of the bandits.
“One of the achievements is the arrest of military fraudsters who are famous for being cruel and the recovery of weapons cache and significant ammunition.
“On April 16, following a tribute call from a local hunter, the troops were quickly mobilized to the camp suspected bandits in Dutsen Kachalla in another, Lau Lga.
“After seeing the approaching troops, the criminals fled to the mountains.
“The troops chased and managed to find an AK-47 magazine, one AK-47 rifle ass, one military head cover and a national identification card belonging to one of Umaru Jauro.
“On April 19, acting based on credible intelligence, the troops arrested one Yusuf Hammadu, also known as Dogo in Lau Lga, who was already on the list of security agents’ supervision for its involvement in several criminal activities.
“During the preliminary interrogation, Hammadu claimed to be a member of the syndicate responsible for several kidnappings and ransom collections in Jalingo, Ardo-Kola, Lau, and Yorro Lga.
“In another operation on April 22, the troops arrested a Richard Ongu, who had paraded himself as a major in serving in the Nigerian Army.
“The suspect mistakenly claimed that he was placed in 20 battalion models, Gashaka. During the initial investigation, Ongu claimed that he was a flight sergeant that was dismissed from the Nigerian Air Force and was separated from the service on November 22, 2019.”
