The Benue State Council Council has rejected speculation that Governor of Hyacinth Alia affects the resignation of his speech, Hyacinth Dajoh.
Dajoh resigned from a position on Sunday, a few days after three members of the parliament were suspended for planning their transfer.
The assembly spokesman, Elias Audu, made a clarification on Monday when he appeared on the television program Channels, The Morning Brief.
He stressed that the resignation of the former speaker was a personal decision made in good faith.
The spokesman argues that members of the parliament remain “independent thinking” and cannot be forced to be a decision.
He said: “If the governor has an interest, whatever it is, it is not in the assembly knowledge.
“The speaker did his job, and after some time, maybe for a particular decision, he thanked people for their support and said it was time to leave. I am sure that the speaker resigned based on personal principles.”

He further stressed that resignation was not a symptom of a crisis but reflects the “collective will” of the legislator.
“The speaker of the past immediately resigned voluntarily. He came, he saw, he conquered, and he did his best for the country. When he said it was time to stop, members unanimously chose to have a respected Bergerga as a new speaker in a peaceful atmosphere,” he explained.
According to Audu, the assembly continued to uphold the principle of separation of power and would not hesitate to reject executive policies or nominations that were considered not to be the interests of the people. He quoted a new rejection of several nominations sent by Governor Alia as proof of legislative independence.
Governor Alia also denied involvement in the resignation of Dajoh, insisting that he maintains a friendly work relationship with parliamentary members while focusing on the agenda of the country’s development.
Dajoh, in the resignation letter submitted on Sunday, said his decision was taken “with good faith and for the best interests of the country.”
In the emergency plenary session led by Deputy Chairman of Lami Ogenyi, the house unanimously chose to have a respected Bergerga Berger, representing North Makurdi, as a new speaker after suspending the rules to enable the process.
The new guide, who was newly suspended together with three other parliamentary members for alleged plot imeachment, promised to work harmoniously with its predecessors and colleagues to advance the priority of benue development.
Meanwhile, in related development, the Assembly last week rejected the nomination of Timothy Orng also as a commissioner after four petitions against him, including the accusation that he did not have elementary school certificates.
