The family of British couples who died in Funicular Lisbon accident said they were “broken hearted” because they paid respect to them.

Kayleigh Smith, 36, and William Nelson, 44, died with 14 others at Wednesday incidentIncluding other British victims who have not been named.

MS Smith graduated from the Arden Theater School in Manchester, where Mr Nelson was running a master’s degree in directing.

In a statement shared by Cheshire police, the MS Smith family said: “Kayleigh is loved by family and friends because of his intelligence and humor, its good and caring nature arises to the surface in his work as a funeral operation.

“He is also a talented theater director and has just finished the master’s degree. They both left family and friends who were heartbroken.”

Nelson’s sister, who was not mentioned in the statement, added: “The words cannot begin to describe how our family and friends feel at this time, but here is the best effort. This week, because of tragic accidents in Lisbon, Portugal, we lost Nelson, who were not only my sister but everyone.

“He is always good, selfless, and protective, and the world does not feel right or normal without him. He is and has always been my hero, and we will always miss you. Loving you, rest in your peace Legend.”

‘We don’t feel brake anymore’

Mads Theater at MacClesfield, Cheshire, said MS Smith is “members who are valued from our society” who will be “missed”.

Lisbon Crash: What happened?

Five Portuguese residents died when the crowded carriage fell out of control – four of them workers on a charity body on the hill – but most of the victims were strangers.

The police said that other deaths were two Canadians, two South Koreans, one America, one French citizen, one Switzerland and one Ukraine.

All except one was declared dead at the scene – and 21 others on the crowded train.

Gloria Funicular yellow carriage is a big attraction for tourists, as well as a proud symbol of the Portuguese capital.
