The Nigerian Catholic Secretariat (CSN) has stated that they will release a formal response to the controversial image produced by the former US president dressed as a pope, but only after the comprehensive verification process to ensure its authenticity.
Very Pastor Fr. Mike Nsikak Umoh, National Director of Social Communication at the Secretariat, emphasized the need for careful confirmation before public statements.
He told reporters on Sunday, “I sent it to my ICT officer to verify the resources and related promotions. Until I did it, I could not say something for sure.”
Fr. Umoh underlined the potential for the dissemination of wrong information, especially about prominent figures such as Trump, noted, “We also know that this kind of thing is made -made.”

The picture, which was shared by Trump shortly after the death of Pope Francis, has caused significant controversy. The Catholic Conference of the State of New York expressed his criticism of the picture, released a statement that said, “Nothing is smart or funny about this image, Mr. President. We have just bury our beloved Francis Pope, and the cardinal will enter a solemn concrete conclave to choose the new successor to St. Peter. Don’t mock us.”
Sharing Trump about digital changed images, which are then re -posted by the official White House account, has caused various reactions from the public, which includes entertainment to shocks. His accompanying comments about the desire to become a Pope increasingly complicated his position in the religious community, encouraging some people to question the sincerity of his statement.
