The civil dictatorship is worse than military dictatorship – Sen Dickson

A former governor of the state of Bayelsa and at the service of the senator on the platform of the Democratic Party of people, PDP, Henry Seriake Dickson, on Monday he reproached the civil dictatorship, saying that he was worse than his military variant.

โ€œThe civil dictatorship is not better than the military dictatorship; therefore, we should all work together to deepen our democracy.

“The political elite must undertake to follow the Constitution, the laws and the right trial,” said Senator Dickson in a statement after participating in the 66th birthday of the 60th birthday of the former governor of the Imo State, the Head Emeka IHedioha, in Abuja on Monday.

The interview was themed: “Democracy fails in Africa?”

Dickson has hypothesized that “democracy is better than autocracy or dictatorship and we should always remember that we are there to serve the people and the common good and that even the people of Nigeria must be authorized to be awakened through sensitizations and workshops to allow them to carry out and affirm their full rights as citizens, in agreement with democracy.”

Senator Dickson said that a more active population was needed to support democracy.

According to him: โ€œWe cannot have a democracy with docile and ignorant citizens or a citizenship that is constantly manipulated along ethnic and religious lines.

โ€œCitizens must have a firm commitment to what they want from their leadership and be ready to pay the price.

“Going on, we must organize and arrive at the base to raise awareness among Nigerian citizens.”

He continued: “Democracy will continue to fail until the citizens wake up and will be enhanced by information and knowledge, together with the leadership and management provided by the elite to keep those who guide them or serve them to take into account and assert the benefits conferred by democracy pursuant to the Constitution and the laws. These must commit ourselves”.

He praised the celebrator: “I personally followed the trajectory of Ihedioha of the Hon. In public life and I must say that he was very well acquitted, from his days as a helper to the former president of the Senate, the deceased Chuba Okadigbo, to his election to the house of representatives, to his emergency as a whisk of the majority and delegate.

“I also remember having been elected governor of the Imo state, even if I feel sad for the fact that his mandate has been interrupted as he was. They are, however, impressed by the fact that he took his removal with equanimity, and is today one of the main players of the Federation.

“I wish him the best,” said Senator Dickson.

Dickson, who represents Bayelsa West in the Senate, was with IHedioha in the House of Representatives from 2007-2012.
