The court has remanded 4 police officers for “killing traders at Owode market”.

A court in Ebute Metta, Lagos, has ordered the remand of four police officers accused of allegedly shooting and killing traders at the popular Owode Onirin International Spare Parts Market.

The suspects, Manu Bala (41), Jibrin Samaila (47), Ibrahim Garuba (29) and Ibrahim Kashimu (26) were remanded to Kirikiri Custodial Center to await legal advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The officers face seven charges bordering on conspiracy and murder.

The Police Prosecutor, Mr OW Ologun, told the court that the accused allegedly conspired and carried out the murders on August 27, 2025, at around 9am at Owode Onirin Market in Lagos.

The chargesheet filed before the court by the police commissioner stated that the accused and others still at large killed several traders using AK-47 rifles.

The victims named in the indictment include Bamidele Dare Mufutau, Adebayo Adewale Mathew, Adeoye Taiye, Abraham Idowu Temilola, Akinboye Oluwaseyi Olamilekan and Akeem Aderemi Adeoye.

The prosecution said the alleged offenses contravene sections 223 and 233 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015, which prescribe punishment for murder and criminal conspiracy.

Mr Ologun added that the suspects were brought before the court for a remand order pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to determine whether there is a prima facie case against them.

After hearing the request, the magistrate granted the request and ordered that the four defendants be detained at the Kirikiri detention center pending the opinion of the DPP.
