The court postponed El-Rufai’s lawsuit against ICPC and 4 other people until March 23

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday, adjourned the fundamental rights enforcement lawsuit filed by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) and four others until March 25 for hearing.

The judge adjourned the case to allow the parties to organize their proceedings.

El-Rufai is demanding N1 billion in damages for rights violations committed by ICPC and other respondents.

Other respondents were the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Magistrate’s Court, the Inspector General of Police, and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).

The former governor, in a preliminary motion based on notice marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/345/2026, dated and filed February 20 by Oluwole Iyamu, SAN, sought seven reliefs.

He prayed the court to declare that the raid and search of his residence at House 12, Mampilla Street, Aso Drive, Abuja, on February 19 by the ICPC and the police constituted a violation of his rights.

When base was called, Ubong Akpan, who appeared on behalf of El-Rufai, informed the court that the matter was ready for hearing.

However, he said they had just responded to the ICPC’s counter statement, but had not yet responded to the IGP’s statement.

Abdulsufiano Abubakar, ICPC lawyer, and police attorney, Ezekiel Rimamsomte, confirmed Akpan’s submission.

Therefore, Judge Abdulmalik postponed the case until March 25 for trial.

The judge ordered that the Chief Justice) and the AGF, who was not represented in court, be given notice of the hearing.
