Petition Election of the Governor of the State Edo directed the court sitting in Abuja on Wednesday confirmed that the Governor of Monday Okpebholo’s victory on September 21, 2024, the election in the state.
The panel of three members led by judge Wilfred KPochi rejected the petition proposed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, due to lack of achievements.
The applicants challenged the Declaration of the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) from Okpebholo from the Congress of All Progressive (APC) as the winner of the poll.
They accused that the election was tainted by irregularities.

The Petitioners, among others, argued that the Governor Election was invalid due to alleged non-compliance with the provisions of the Election Law, 2022.
The KPochi judge, who submitted the main decision, stated that the applicants failed to summon competent witnesses to prove the accusations of non-compliance with the Election Law.
He noted that the failure of the petition makers to summon the voting unit officer, the chairman or even voters during the election was fatal for their petition.
According to the chairman, most of the 19 witnesses called by PDP only gave evidence of rumors during the trial.
He also blamed the PDP dependence in section 137 of the Election Law to dispose of documents into the court.
