The driver, the other one died when the police rescued 14 bus passengers kidnapped in the benue

Police operations in the state of Benue on Thursday saved 14 passengers who were kidnapped by criminals in the Otukpo State area.

Spokesman for the State Police Command, Catherine Anene, revealed this in a statement on Friday night in Makurdi.

He said the operation was carried out in collaboration with members of the Benue state civil protection guard.

However, the spokesman confirmed that the bus driver and a passenger died of a gunshot wound.

Anene said: “The team launched a search for victims kidnapped in the nearest forest immediately.

“On 4/4/2025 around 1500 hours, they saw the bandits in the forest and involved them in a pistol duel. Superior shooting power from the police conquered them and they took their heels, leaving their prisoners.

“Unfortunately, they have caused slaughter victims before rescue. Fourteen (14) the victim was rescued and taken to the hospital, where one was confirmed to have died and the other was currently receiving treatment.”
