A driver was seriously injured when a truck fell from the Sinema Pen bridge in the Agege area in Lagos on Saturday.
General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (Lastma), Olarekan Bakare-Oki, revealed this in a statement issued by the Director of Public Affairs and Department of Enlightenment, Taofiq Adebayo.
He said the accident occurred on the old Abeokuta Street, Agege, and involved a truck with a registration number GGE 624 Y and two commercial Volkswagen buses that were painted.
He added that Lastma officers responded quickly and succeeded in releasing the driver who was very hurting and immediately entrusted him to the Police Division Officer Elere.
Oki said: “The driver was then taken to the General Hospital, Ile-Epo, for urgent medical intervention.
“The initial investigation showed that the truck driver, who suffered a broken bone on both hands, lost control over the vehicle while navigating the Pen Cinema Bridge.
“As a result, the truck fell from the bridge, landing on two commercial buses placed below.”
“In an effort to protect other road users and prevent secondary incidents, authority personnel quickly secure the location of the accident by covering the area and diverting vehicle traffic.
“After that, the operators from the Lagos State Emergency Management Response Unit Unit quickly cleaned the ruins, thus restoring traffic flow without obstacles along the axis.”
