The EFCC is pushing for permanent confiscation of 57 assets linked to Malami

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday told the Federal High Court in Abuja that 57 properties allegedly linked to former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), should be permanently handed over to the Federal Government.

The EFCC, in a motion for final notice of forfeiture of the property filed by its team of lawyers led by Jibrin Okutepa, (SAN), and Ekele Iheanacho (SAN), told Justice Joyce Abdulmalik that the defendants had failed to present sufficient evidence before the court to warrant the court quashing the previous interim order.

The former AGF and his family members namely Abdulaziz Abubakar Malami, Hajia Bashir Asabe, Abiru’ Rahman Abubakar Malami are listed as respondents in the lawsuit.

Others are Rayhaan Bustan and Agro Allied Limited, Mountain View Gold and Jewelery Limited, Amasdul Oil and Gas Limited, Azbir Arena Nigeria Limited and Methaqualone Hotels Limited.

The application was filed under Article 17 of the Law on Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud-Related Offenses, No. 14 of 2006.

The commission said: “The final order of this honorable court hands over to the Federal Government of Nigeria, the properties described in the schedule below, which the commission finds to be properties alleged to be proceeds of unlawful activities.”
