The Eko International Cup begins on July 6 in Lagos

A preseason soccer tournament labeled with the Eko International Cup (EIC) will take a central stage between July 6 and 13 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.

SKI-HI Entertainment In collaboration with the Government of the State of Lagos is organizing the competition that is expected to present a total of eight teams.

In this tournament, the best professional football teams from inside and outside Nigeria come together to compete with each other for a period of 10 days in an exciting carnival atmosphere.

This year, competitors extend in five countries, including Nigeria, Benin, Ghana, South Africa and Sierra Leone.

According to the Executive Director, Advertising and Strategy for the Local Organizing Committee of the EIC, Onome Obruthe, the arrangements for the tournament are in the first march.

He said: “The objective of the tournament is to give participating clubs the opportunity to be in shape after their vacation at the end of each season. It is also an opportunity to try new players who signed or plan to sign for the new season, as well as work in tactics for the new season.

“For fans, it is an opportunity to return to the stadium to see the players who love and try what their various teams have to offer for the new season.”

The NPFL reigning champions, the rowing stars, Ikorodu United, Shooting Stars and Enyimba of Aba are the Nigerian team invited to appear in the competition.

The four teams that are expected to appear from other parts of the continent are FC Kallon from Sierra Leone, Accra Hearts of Oak, Ghana, Supersports United FC of South Africa and FC Dadje of the Republic of Benin.

Obruthe added that the state government of Lagos through the Sports Commission of the State of Lagos and the Football Association has been of tremendous assistance for the organizing team.

“We are very happy with the 100 percent co-decoration and acceptance granted to the organizing team. The president of FA, Haji Gafar Liameed, has given us the assurance that we are going to enjoy a meeting without problems in the tournament.” Obruthe stressed.
