The gas explosion kills the three -year -old family in Warri

A family of three children died following an explosion of gas in their residence in Warri, in the Delta State.

The accident occurred on May 30, 2025, while the family was preparing for the celebration of her daughter’s birthday.

Sources said that the father was installing a burner on a small gas cylinder while another nearby stove was already in use.

According to reports, the loss of gas from the smaller cylinder turned on a fire on the other flame, triggering a devastating explosion.

The father sold to injuries shortly after the explosion.

The mother, who had just left the bathroom, has undergone critical burns and was running to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), where she later died.

Their daughter, who had recently obtained a visa and was destined to travel abroad, also suffered serious burns.

He died on June 14, 2025, in the same hospital.

An engineer, John Perede Akpoyibo, who reported the accident, attributed the explosion to the use of multiple gas cylinders in a confined space and the absence of safety equipment as detectors of gas and fire extinguishers.

He urged families to avoid using more than one cylinder in closed spaces, guarantee adequate ventilation and extinct all the flames during gas management.

Akpoyibo also asked for greater awareness of the gas security community to avoid similar disasters in the future. [With The Guardian report]
