Former Presidential Candidate of the Labor Party Peter Obi has made a spicy criticism of Nigeria’s leadership, stating that the state governance system has deteriorated into a “scene” in which hard -working citizens are ignored while politicians looted public funds.
Speaking on Tuesday during a visit to the Nursing School of Godfrey Okoye at Enugu, where he donated N20 million to support the institution, Obi expressed deep concern over the poverty crisis and Nigerian malnutrition that worsened, quoting a worrying report from the World Bank and UNICEF.
“It’s not easy to work in our country today, because those who work are not treated, those who do not work, who are government officials and politicians, are busy stealing money,” Obi said bluntly.
Former Governor Anambra painted a gloomy picture of the failure of the Nigerian government: “We have changed governance into the scene. Instead of using resources to do the right, we use it to do the wrong thing.”
Obi specifically highlighted the lack of severe Nigerian health labor, noting the terrible needs in the country for 1.2 million nurses compared to less than 200,000 who are currently registered. He urged nurse students to remain committed, emphasizing their important role in serving rural communities.

“The world needs nurses and Nigeria, especially in need of them for community hospitals and hospitals,” he told students.
Opposition leaders praise religious -based organizations such as the Catholic Church for filling a gap in which the government fails: “What you do is what we should do in government. That is government work.”

In response, Bishop Callistus Onaga from the Catholic Diocese of Enugu thanked Obi for his philanthrops while offering prophetic political comments:
“We pray for you … not everyone likes to try to see the fate of the poor but you have done it. What we pray for is that your dream of Nigeria must come through … things -things are not going well in our country.”
This event underlined the developing concern about the crisis of the Nigerian government, with Obi positioning himself as a reform champion ahead of the election in the future. His comments reflect the deeper public frustration with political leadership because economic difficulties continue to increase throughout the country.
