The group praises NJC’s courageous action against the misconduct

A civic defense group, Watch management, greeted the National Judial Council (NJC) for taking still and courageous steps to free the judiciary of non -ethical practices and restore public trust in the judicial system.

A statement issued by its president, Mallam Bukar Hamza, the group applauded the NJC for having taken decisive actions against bailiffs deemed guilty of bad conduct, stating that recent disciplinary measures reflect a renewed commitment for transparency, integrity and responsibility within the nation judicial system.

According to the Watch judiciary, the recent suspension of two judges and the recommendation for the withdrawal of two court leaders following accusations of misconduct show that the NJC is seriously to support ethical standards.

The group also noted cases in which the judges were recommended for mandatory retirement due to the falsification of age, describing the necessary actions to restore the trust of the public in the judiciary.

“The ability of the NJC to exercise disciplinary control over judicial officers in error, while protecting those who face unfounded accusations, is a clear indication of its balance and only approach to judicial reform”, reads the declaration.

Watch management further highlighted the role of the judges’ performance evaluation committee in the evaluation and monitoring of the services of the bailiffs.

He praised NJC’s use of the assessment of services not only as a disciplinary tool, but also as a point of reference for the appointments and budget considerations.

“The internal controls of the Council are proving to be effective. Evaluating the performance and applying the discipline if necessary, the NJC is strengthening the credibility of the judiciary”, added the group.

Mallam Hamza has urged other supervision bodies to emulate NJC standards and maintain diligence in guaranteeing responsibility within their sectors.

The group urged NJC to remain firm in its mandate, underlining that the struggle to clean up the judiciary is fundamental for the survival of Nigerian democracy and the rule of law.
