The hit -and -run driver killed a police officer in Gombe

A hit -and -run driver on Wednesday killed the Police Supervisory Assistant (ASP), Clement Yunana, in the State of Gombe.

Spokesman for the State Police Command, Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday in Gombe.

He said the late officer was attached to the railroad police outstation, Bajoga division.

According to him, the incident occurred at around 17:00 across the matrix fuel filling station in Tumfure, the Akko Regional Government area.

“Initial investigations revealed that unknown vehicles, traveling from the Poros of Jalan Bauchi to the metropolitan city of Gombe, hit Asp Clement Yunana when he tried to cross the road,” Abdullahi said.

He said the driver escaped from the scene without stopping or offering help, leaving officers with a serious injury.

“Yunana was rushed to the Federal Education Hospital, Gombe, where he was then declared dead.

“The police have launched a full scale investigation and worked to track and identify drivers and vehicles involved,” the spokesman added.
