The Ikeja Disco incident that is being reviewed, violators will be approved – HQ Defense

The Head of Civil-Military Relations Defense at the Headquarters of Defense, Admiral Muda Olusunya Bankole, has convinced the Nigerians that investigations are ongoing on recent quarrels between several military personnel and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) personnel.

Speaking at Sunrise Daily, a television channel program, on Friday, Bankole admitted that the defense headquarters was reviewing the incident and assured that the right sanctions would be imposed on anyone who found mistakes.

“What happens at Ikeja Disco is being seen seriously at the Headquarters of the Nigerian Air Force defense and headquarters. Whatever sanctions need to be dropped,” he said.

While condemning the actions seen in the viral video of the incident, he clarified that such behavior does not represent Nigeria’s military values. He also noted that the underlying tension between the Air Force and the IKEDC was being handled.

Bankole also explained that the military existed to protect, not intimidating, the public.

He stressed that uniformed personnel are committed to serving and protecting the nation.

“People should not feel afraid when they see people in uniforms; uniformed men are intended to protect you,” he said. “Military career is a noble career. Beyond protecting the territorial integrity of the country, we are also responsible for protecting life.”

Bankole expressed the belief that under the leadership of the defense staff, General Christopher Musa, the military will continue to gain trust and respect from Nigeria through professionalism and service.

He also highlighted sustainable efforts to strengthen military-sipil relations, emphasizing the need for public cooperation in collecting intelligence.

“The military is here to protect the people, and the message is strengthened through a sensitization program,” he said. “A good relationship between the military and civilians is very important because we rely on intelligence from the people to effectively carry out our duties.”
