The inflation rate of Nigeria drops to 20.12%

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has announced that Nigeria’s inflation rate dropped to 20.12 percent in August 2025.

The NBS announced it in the report of its consumer price index (CPI) published on Monday 15 September 2025.

According to the NBS, the Nigeria inflation rate decreased by 21.88 percent recorded in July 2025.

The Bureau observed that the inflation rate of the title of August 2025 showed a decrease of 1.76 percent compared to the inflation rate of the title of July 2025.

He said: “On an annual basis, the main inflation rate was 12.03% lower than the rate recorded in August 2024 (32.15%).

“This shows that the inflation rate of securities (annual base) has decreased in August 2025 compared to the same month of the previous year.

“On the basis of the month of month, the main inflation rate in August 2025 was 0.74%, which was 1.25%lower than the rate recorded in July 2025 (1.99%).

“This means that in August 2025, the rate of increase in the average level of prices was less than the rate of increase in the average level of prices in July 2025.”

The NBS revealed that the food inflation rate in August was 21.87 percent, decreasing from 22.74 percent recorded in July.

The NBS said that this was 15.65 percent lower than the 37.52 percent rate recorded in August 2024.

The Bureau added: “The significant drop in the annual figure of food inflation is technically due to change in the basis.

“On the basis of the month of month, the food inflation rate in August 2025 was 1.65%, down by 1.47%compared to July 2025 (3.12%).

“The decrease can be attributed to the drop rate of average rice prices (imported), rice (local), corn flour for guinea pigs, corn flour loose, corn for guinea pig (sorghum), mile, semolina, soy milk etc.”
